Students of various teacher training colleges in Ghana have took to social media on the 23rd of August 2021 to express their worry and need for the government to pay them their existing “allawa” arrears.
The students insist that they be paid their allowances as that is the means of surviving for most of the teacher trainees.
Their plea however received sympathy and concern from Ghanaians as many people also included their voices on Twitter and raised the level of their request.
The trainees however recognized that it is true that the past government cancelled their allowances and it was brought back by this government of which they are grateful but they still needed to be paid if they had brought it back into the system.
The government has reacted to the issue and assured the trainee teachers that their allowance arrears will be paid by the end of September.
Whiles speaking on Nhyira FM this morning, Mr Kwasi Kwarteng who is the spokesperson for the ministry of Education made this pledge.
